Tai Chi: Ancient Exercise in Today’s Rehab Setting

Date: Wednesday, February 11th, 2026
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm EST

About the Presentation:
Tai Chi is a slow, graceful, Chinese, mind-body practice that enhances relaxation skills, mental focus, and physical alignment while improving upper and lower extremity strength, endurance, and stability. This form of exercise has been increasing in popularity as an alternative form of exercise both in the general population as well as in the neurorehabilitation setting.

The objective of this presentation is to present an alternative form of exercise used in the neurorehabilitation setting. The clinician will gain an understanding of how this program was developed and how it can be implemented in other clinical settings. Through analysis of the various Tai Chi movement patterns, the audience will leave with a general knowledge of six basic movement patterns, which can be immediately implemented into a patient treatment plan.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Create an understanding of the benefits of Therapeutic Balance Group Tai Chi movement patterns for the neurological patient population.
  2. Formulate a better understanding of the progression of modified Tai Chi movements for the neurological patient population.
  3. Demonstrate the bridge between clinic-based therapeutic balance activities into the home and community.
