The SINR Seminar is a monthly virtual seminar that provides clinically relevant didactics and training in neuropsychological rehabilitation. Topics range from didactic presentations germane to neuropsychological rehabilitation to case studies. The vision of the SINR Seminar is to create more learning and community-building opportunities within the field of neuropsychological rehabilitation.

The monthly SINR Seminar takes place on the second Wednesday each month from 12 to 1pm EST. Monthly seminars are sponsored and organized by the SINR Education Committee. Seminar attendance is now eligible for CE credit (1.0 CE) through the American Psychological Association (APA)!

Starting February 2026, CE credits will be offered at the following rate for each seminar:

$15 for SINR Members (LMIC, Student and EC)
$20 for SINR Members (Professional)
$30 for Non-Members

How do I participate in the monthly seminar?

You do not need to be a member to participate in the monthly seminars, but you do need to be a member to receive CE credit and a CE certificate.

After you register, you will receive the Zoom meeting link for the seminar.

How do I get my CEs?

Paid members will receive an email with your CE credit certificate after the seminar and a link to complete the post-seminar survey. Attendees do not have to complete the survey in order to receive their certificates, but the survey helps us to continue to improve our seminars.

If I miss a seminar, can I watch a recording?

All seminars are recorded. Both recordings and slides will be available on the SINR Community website, www.si-nr.org. You will not receive CE credit for watching a recording, however. You must register and attend the seminar to receive CE credit.

This program is sponsored by the American Psychological Association for Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. The Saugatuck Institute for Neuropsychological Rehabilitation maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The SINR 2026 Seminars are approved for 1 Credit Hour per seminar you register and pay for. Participants from other disciplines (e.g., speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, counselling) may submit their certificate of attendance to their respective licensing or credentialing boards to determine eligibility for continuing education credit. Acceptance of CE credit is determined solely by the participant’s licensing board or professional organization.

From Alexithymia to Emotional-Self Awareness: Clinical Strategies for Brain Injury Resilience and Emotional Well-being

About the Presentation:
Following a brain injury (BI), patients face a complex array of sequelae that profoundly impact emotional well-being. To optimize post-injury care, clinicians must identify and target modifiable risk factors that influence long-term mental health. This presentation highlights one critical, yet frequently overlooked factor: alexithymia. We will unpack the clinical characteristics of alexithymia and explore its direct impact on resilience and emotional functioning after BI. Finally, attendees will learn practical methods for assessment and discover an evidence-based training program designed to rebuild emotional self-awareness, equipping clinicians with actionable strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

Identify the clinical characteristics and presentation of alexithymia in brain injury population and explain the link between emotional self-awareness, resilience, and long-term mental health outcomes.
Select appropriate clinical assessment tools to evaluate alexithymia and outline how to access them.
Describe the key components of an evidence-based emotional self-awareness training program and identify resources to access the intervention.

About the Presenter:

Dawn Neumann, PhD, FACRM
Dr. Dawn Neumann is a Research Scientist and Manager of Brain Injury Research at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. She is also a Professor at Hackensack School of Medicine in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She has a Master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology and a doctorate in Rehabilitation Science. Her research aims to advance the understanding and treatment of social cognition and emotion regulation deficits after brain injury. She serves on the Journal of Head Trauma

Rehabilitation editorial review board and the Board of Directors for the North American Brain Injury Society.
